Travian (such as any game in the end) kinda shows your personality, no matter how hard you’d try to hide this. A lot of daily frustrations get “solved” during the game, many instincts drive you into this strategy game, where you meet thousands of other people and interract.
The so called “sim city players” always have problems, because Travian wasn’t meant to be as a “build as much as you can” game, but as a “if you don’t kill them, they’ll get you” system. And it’s hard for most people since they realize their actions will HURT others.
Were you ever raided? Do you recall the fear you had seeing the red countdown till the attack? How you felt sorry for the resources lost and the armies killed? You know you put other players through this too with your attacks, don’t you?
This is why many people would like to chose the peaceful way so that they don’t hurt others. It’s a nice thing to do, but Travian is not for peaceful people. Sooner or later these nice players will get wiped out. It’s a survival race there and the meek don’t inherit anything, just the delete button maybe.
And still .. how ca you still be a nice person? How can you be a positive “hero” in Travian?
1. Don’t be mean to your “farms”.
As an experienced player I also find it annoying to be contacted by other players to stop attacking them. Some use a nice tone, others use a foul language. Those who curse are reported or farmed till they delete account (I do have my mean days too and swearing is not something I’d gladly deal with), but many of those who are polite might get some time off my raids and also some hints.
I like teaching people from time to time, so I do take few minutes off to offer them some hints to avoid being farmed. The fact I stop raiding doesn’t mean a thing, since they are a target for many others. Knowing how to protect those resources will help them more since no one would be able to take anything from them anymore and the raids will eventually stop.
2. “OK, are you active? Then I’ll stop.”
Many raiders dislike attacking active players. Just because they know how frustrating the game might be for such people who are not able to build anything. But there are still so many villages left by players who stopped playing. Why not take those resources?
In this case you can spare the players who personally contact you and let you know they are active. If they don’t contact you, maybe they don’t care or have a strategy. Or maybe they just left town. You can then raid at ease and have your conscience feel good. You did try to be a good person.
3. Don’t hold grudges.
I know how you feel when being attacked. Especially by a smaller player who just doesn’t get that you are able to crush him in a second. Some smaller players don’t know the “unwritten rules” of Travian and try to push your buttons. Maybe they are just stupid, you think, or maybe they lack so much experience, they just don’t realize how big you are. You can be a good person and contact them to tell them what they are getting into. Solve this peacefully before wiping they village out. Sending a wave of catapults is easy, but maybe you wouldn’t feel that nice.
Overall Travian is not for “nice” playing. You have to raid so that you’re not raided. You need to be the farmer and not the farm. Most of the experienced people first build the barracks and the first 2 soldiers and then consider anything else. I do this too and was able to get to an over 300 population in 10 days.
Still, if you’d like to be a good person, there are things you can do: be considerate towards other players, don’t destroy them just for the fun, try to spare the players who contact you in a polite manner to ask you to give them some time off the attacks. Be a fair player and this would suffice. In the end all players in Travian know what they are getting into. The moment you see all the possible buildings and see how much emphasis is given to troops and military buildings, it’s clear Travian is not for peace.

how i can get 300 pop…in 10 days?

Hello Zico.
I don’t know if getting to a 300 pop should be your main concern. You need to have some army as fast as possible (raiding others will get you a lot of resources, especially in the first days, when your resource production is very low) and also consolidate the resource production (so that you won’t always rely solely on raiding.
Just focus on establishing your power in your 7×7 and grow at your own pace.

How do I get rid of or use animal troops in Travian? All they do is eat my crop!!!
August 15th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Also I forgot to ask whether attackin gets more resources or raiding? Which is riskier?

Hello Mike and welcome to Travian Tips
I am afraid you won’t get rid of the animal unless someone attacks you. It does consume ONLY 1 crop, so it’s not such a huge issue.
Normal attack is used when you want to destroy ALL the army you find in a village. You raid for resources. If you meet resistance, then your soldiers will attack them and leave. You can imagine this as a fight:
Raid - the soldiers attack once and kill what they can
Normal attack - they keep on attaking till one of the sides has no soldier remaining.
We use normal attacks to avoid getting caught in Gaul traps or when we go with the catapults.
The resources are the same. If you have few soldiers in raids, is a good idea to raid and maybe get some alive at home. And then go with tens of them and clear the village out

At a pop of 200+ you should have at least 200 army. I think you need to do something else here: train soldiers and make sure they’re not in the village when you’re being attacked. Have a big cranny and also upgrade the wall. With a good wall your attacker will lose troops when attacking (even if there’s no defence in the village).
Don’t let resources stay too long.
The troops you’re already training will not stay in the village. Send them to raid as much as possible on small players. At night, send them hours distance so that they come back when you’re online.
Having a residency is a good idea since it’s giving you some bonus.
Don’t just be a sitting duck, retailiate.. Right now you’re making an army, start discovering new units so that you have cavalry and catapults.
There is also a problem. I raid some big villages too and if I am not pleased seeing them have already some armies, I am sending the catas to cool them down. Still, in my case it’s more of an alliance strategy (we need to clear around) and not all players are as mean as I am.
Just train some soldiers and send them out when being attacked. Use them to raid and help you develop more.
Keep me posted

you said a good wall is needed to kill enemys without soldiers, what kind of level is this?
January 20th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
One hint, if you’re getting sacked alot. Pick your cheapest defense unit, spearman, phalanx, praetorian. Make a hero unit of same.
Upgrade the walls and leave him in town with a full defense upgrade.
When the enemy comes theyll lose a half dozen men or more to him, and he only costs what 2 of his units would cost to revive. Plus, they revive fairly quickly. Repeat this a few times, with the enemy getting no resources (cranny up!) and losing troops every attack, while your defense hero gains xp and gets even more deadly each attack, they’ll soon stop.

@tom usually we need a wall of at least 10 plus to kill enemies without soldiers. It kills 1 or 2 of them
